Office Assistant

(9/2017 – still open) Torian Group provides computer consulting and support services to small businesses in the Visalia area. You will be the face of the company to our clients, and help coordinate our work schedules – making sure everything in the office goes smoothly.

Act as receptionist – Receive visitors (and their computers), accept packages, and screen calls. Interact with clients by phone, email and IM, and gather information for troubleshooting if needed. Schedule appointments for onsite and remote support by matching the client’s problem to the right technician. Make sure staff follow up with clients and monitor the status of projects. Help with data entry and documentation for work done. Help generate monthly invoices and review them for accuracy. Scan and deposit checks. Assist with client newsletters. Keep the office environment in order and clean. Make sure all needed resources are available to techs. Act as personal assistant to the owner as needed. In general – keep the office running smoothly.

Skills required: Touch typing, at least 30 WPM. Knowledge of Microsoft office products, and versions. Word, Excel, Skype for Business, and Outlook are the most used. Knowledge of Windows – You probably should have used all versions, and be able to determine what type of problem a user is having over the phone. Usually this means having worked with computers over many years. Knowledge of server products – what they are, not necessarily experience with installing or maintaining. You should be familiar with Exchange, SQL server, etc. to the point of recognizing and being able to describe work done by techs and route problems to the right person. Excellent phone and people skills. Task and time management skills – be able to see that a large number of tasks and projects are on track. Consistently follow through on a wide variety of responsibilities. Able to work with and manage people who may have a lot more technical skill – know how to work in a team. Be a quick learner, and inclined to continue learning on your own. (What you know this year will be obsolete next year.) You will need to be comfortable with sitting in front of a computer, and being on the phone a lot.

This is a part time position, 8am – 12pm or 1pm. Pay is $10-$12 depending on experience.

Web Developer

(6/2016 – still open) We are seeking a web designer/developer who can work with clients to develop their online presence, managing the entire process. This can include helping clients develop an online brand, website design, social media and online marketing. You should have excellent design skills, and be able to convert your design into a working website using current coding methods.  You should have experience with graphic design and be comfortable using Adobe products, as well as deep expertise and hands on experience with web applications and programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, PHP, ASP/.Net etc. You should be familiar with WordPress and other commonly used development environments.  You should understand UI design, development and testing. You should be familiar with online marketing strategies, SEO, and understand how to measure results.  You will work with clients to set expectations and manage multiple projects, working independently. You will need excellent communication skills. A degree in graphic design or web development is a plus. You should be able to work with web servers, databases, and web security – both Linux and Windows. Touch typing is a requirement.

Pay is based on your skill level, between $20-$50/Hr.

Hardware/Software support Internship positions

We may have one or more part time internship positions open for interested students. Students entering the workforce face a challenge – they can’t get a job because they don’t have experience, and they don’t have experience because they can’t get a job. This is an opportunity to get experience.  It involves working with our network technicians – providing desktop support, doing repairs, updating documentation, and generally helping out. It is typically part time for a few months. We can work with COS to offer independent study credit and work experience credit as an option.  We have hired many of our interns, pay based on their skills.
