Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 2 is out. Included: numerous bug fixes; previous Office updates; improvements in spam filtering; a new phishing detection tool for Outlook.

Separately, be sure to check for the latest update for junk mail filtering. These come out monthly.

If you have switched to Microsoft update from windows update (see last month’s newsletter), the service pack and junk mail filter updates will be installed as part of the automatic update process.

Dual Core processors are taking off faster than I expected. Nearly all the machines in local stores are now dual core media center computers.  Dual core laptops will be out in January.  Intel and AMD are both going to Dual Core for servers.

Recent anti-spyware reviews recommend F-Secure, Sunbelt counterspy, and Trend Micro Anti-Spyware for corporate deployments. Sunbelt Counterspy leads for personal use.  Microsoft anti-spyware got good ratings but does not catch some known spyware because the spyware products offer a license agreement before installing – they want to support end user license agreements.
