April 2005 Windows 2003 Server Service Pack 1 has been released. It is a significant update, and should be installed on all 2003 servers. In addition to bug fixes, there are numerous security enhancements. So far, the only known issues are these: It does not apply to Small Business Server – a separate sp1 will be released soon for SBS; It causes problems with ISA Server 2000 and Outlook; Servers with ISA 2004 must have ISA SP1 installed first; The new security configuration wizard causes problems with Exchange 2003 if Exchange was installed to a non-default location. I would suggest getting our help with this update if you have 2003 server. You will want to have a full backup of the system state on the server and the data before updating. If you are using AVG antivirus, you may have noticed that it is no longer updating. The vendor has come out with a new version. You must completely uninstall the old version, then install the new one. They moved the location for the download as well. It is now at: http://free.grisoft.com
Sunbelt Counterspy, combined with HijackThis are now considered the best anti-spyware solution. Microsoft Antispyware is a close second in recent tests. Remember that HijackThis is constantly changing, so you need to download the current version when using it. A memory resident anti-spyware product (in addition to anti-virus) is now essential to protect your computer. http://www.sunbelt-software.com/CounterSpy.cfm http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn
