                                                                                                                                   April 2006

There is another flaw in Internet Explorer which can cause your computer to be taken over simply by visiting a malicious web site. Expect a patch the 2nd Tuesday of this month. www.microsoft.com/technet/security/advisory/917077.mspx

You may have gotten a notice that the price of Trend antivirus maintenance has increased dramatically.  I am not happy to see this change of policy.  AAAntivirus is the vendor we have been using to order the Trend AntiVirus for clients. They are pushing Kaspersky AV as an alternative to everyone who has purchased Trend.  There are free Antivrius programs such as AVG (www.grisoft.com), so the real issue is whether the better product is worth the cost.    www.aaantivirus.com/aaantivirus/aaantivirusHome.php

Quickbooks 2006 R5 patch can cause problems if you try to update while others are using the file. After trying to update, you may get this error: “This data file cannot be used because it is not completely updated. Please restore your backup.”  It does not actually damage your data, but does require a fix.   www.quickbooks.com/support/faqs/qb2006/72780abd.html

Intuit now offers a service to remove passwords from Quickbooks files:

SBC and AT&T have merged. They are contacting small business customers to offer them a lower price or higher bandwidth for their DSL connection. If you have not been called, call them.

The SBDC is sponsoring a free seminar on Trends in Technology on Tuesday May 9th  from 12 Noon to 2pm. Topics will include the next version of Windows (Vista), the next version of Office, IE7, new capabilities for mobile phones, and more. For more information: www.toriangroup.com/events

We are pleased to welcome Gabe Macias to our staff. He will be taking over some of the work Daniel was doing – going out to clients on a regular schedule for preventative maintenance and user support. He is A+ and Net+ Certified, and has a strong CAD and artistic background. He has done 3D modeling for movies, and worked as a CAD drafter for a city engineering dept.

I will be out of town April 11th to 15th.  I will be checking messages a couple times a day. Call the office at 733-1940 or Scott at 280-2466 if you need immediate help.
